At the moment we are specifically looking for linguists with the following profiles:

  • EN linguist for an in-house position in Utrecht
  • NL linguist, with a specialisation in legal translations, for an in-house position in Utrecht
  • NL linguist for our software localisation team in Utrecht (experience in IT is considered a benefit)
  • EN linguist, with a specialisation in legal translations from DE, for an in-house position in Berlin
  • FR linguist, for translations in the field of Legal, Life Sciences, Finance, Corporate and/or Marketing, from DE, EN and/or NL, for in-house an positions in Paris, Utrecht or Berlin


Profile for In-House Translators

Overtaal is looking for (junior) translators who are interested in be working in a dynamic, international environment as a member of a 55-strong team. The target languages we are recruiting for are Dutch, English, French and German. The ability to translate from Dutch and English is a prerequisite, but having other source languages is a plus. Overtaal has many clients in the Legal and Life Sciences fields and a great deal of EU work (into Dutch) as well. But that is certainly not all  we offer language services to a plethora of clients across all sectors and industries worldwide, so you will translate, proofread and edit texts on a wide range of subjects. In addition to any specialisations, you should therefore have the skills and mindset to quickly familiarise yourself with new fields and topics.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our processes and deliverables, and we expect you to do the same. You will:

  • work according to Overtaal’s quality assurance procedures

  • work closely with project managers and other translators, receiving and giving feedback where necessary

  • assist with the creation of new department processes while helping to improve existing ones

  • support colleagues in resolving linguistic and other issues

  • work on ‘preflight’ project preparation material

  • maintain terminology databases and update translation memories

  • always ensure the highest possible quality for our clients.



  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Native speaker of the target language

  • Fluent in English and ideally also in Dutch, French and/or German (depending on your native language)

  • Prior translation/proofreading experience

  • Great attention to detail, spelling and grammar

  • Ability to support multiple projects in a flexible manner

  • Ability to maintain professionalism in all situations, especially under tight deadlines

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of software tools and applications

  • Client-driven, service-oriented approach
