08.05.08 Agreement delayed due to translation problems

An agreement between Bosnia-Herzegovina and the EU has experienced delays due to problems relating to translation.

A 'Stabilisation and Association Agreement' (SAA) was supposed to be ready for signing, after a long-disputed police reform had been approved by the Bosnian parliament. The reform was set as a requirement by the EU, in order to bring the two closer together. The SAA was supposed to be signed in Luxembourg toward the end of April.

However, the translation of the agreement into all 23 official EU languages had not yet been completed. Various countries, including France, the Czech Republic and Germany, refused to sign the document because there was no translation available, and the item was removed from the agenda. The signing of the agreement is now delayed by several months. To read the entire article, click here.
