15.01.2009 Overtaal resumes translating European Parliament debates

Starting in 2009, Overtaal resumed translating the verbatim report of proceedings of European Parliament debates. Referred to using the French abbreviation for “compte rendu in extenso” (CRE), this contract actually motivated Overtaal’s establishment in 1997. Overtaal would go on to complete two five-year CRE contracts to the full satisfaction of the client (Report of Proceedings Division).

In August 2007, however, Overtaal received word that the CRE contract would no longer be put out to tender. It seems that translation of the full proceedings was considered unnecessary.

Despite this fact, a new call for tenders was announced in 2008. For the third consecutive time, Overtaal was awarded the contract. In January 2009, we began translating the European Parliament debates once again.
