04.05.06 Overtaal provides its own training

Universities and institutes of higher professional education complain bitterly: the number of language students has been declining for years and is gradually nearing an all-time low. While universities could expect a healthy portion of first-year humanities students 20 years ago, nowadays the lecture halls at humanities faculties are frightfully empty.

This has also had an impact on the job market. A drop in the number of language students inevitably leads to fewer new translators in particular. Consequently, it can sometimes be a real task for large translation agencies, such as Overtaal, to find qualified and specialised translators.

For this reason, we train the translators ourselves. By virtue of the many in-house translators at Overtaal, we have a great deal of knowledge and expertise at our disposal. We are more than happy to share this knowledge with junior translators and students on work placement. Senior translators act as mentors in this regard, by supervising and supporting these recruits and evaluating their work.

In this way we succeed in maintaining our pool of translators, not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality.
